Camera cables can be used for a few different functions. USB and firewire cables are used primarily to connect the camera to a computer. USB is an industry standard for home computers and will transfer photos with ease. Firewire is a protocol that has not caught on as much in the computer world but it transfers information more quickly than USB. Firewire and USB require a specialized cable and inputs on the computer and camera, USB is much more common. Transfer of photos is quite easy with either of these cables. Most cameras, computers and even printers are now plug and play devices. This means that all an owner has to do is connect the two devices and they will be able to talk to each other. Printing photos will be fairly simple on the proper computer or printer. Some printers even offer view screens to edit and confirm the picture looks the way a user wants.

Camera Cables

Audio and visual camera cables will connect to a device and allow it record directly to a different medium such as VHS or even a standard DVD. These type of cables will also allow connection to a television to allow the device to show photos or video directly on the screen so they can be shown to a larger audience than allowed to crowd around a small view screen on the camera. It is almost as simple as hooking up a DVD player but the user should consult their manual to identify how to make use of this capability.

Security Camera Cable

Some consumers have found a different use for camera cables. They have decided to use their cameras and camera cables to form a closed network security system. A simple search of closed-circuit television will provide a history of security cameras and their use for public safety. Home security systems are usually a little low tech in comparison to those seen in the local supermarket or electronics store. It is not something that should be pursued by a novice electronics user though. If the consumer plans to use their cameras and camera cables for a private security television system it is better to have an expert help or follow a good guide from the internet. With the advent of wireless systems a home security system can be developed using wireless cameras and recording equipment. This can make the cameras and recording equipment less easily detected as they don’t rely on wires to make the connections.
