Camera Stands

Camera Stand

Camera stands are used to take still life or stationary shots. They are used for photos and video alike because a steady shot is sometimes the most desired effect that a photographer or director wants to achieve. In the professional movie world a camera stand will be attached to a dolly and a track to create motion but also achieve the desired stable shot the director has in mind. The amateur photographer will not be able to acquire such sophisticated equipment but a creative person will find solutions to any of their possible problems using the available equipment. Professional studios will be able to afford the best stands but novices will have to settle on more primitive means to achieve effects allowed by professional stands.

Video Camera Stands

Tripods and monopods are useful for basic stability and functionality a user needs. Telescoping support legs are the most desirable so the height can be easily adjusted. Monopods are useful because they are easily moved without adjusting the height setting and there is no need to collapse the legs like a tripod. So, the cameraman can move it manually or even attach a wheel to the bottom so it can be moved with one hand still on the camera and even recording. This is a less stable option than a tripod but involves a little less labor to make it mobile. A tripod would need to be attached to a larger surface with wheels to make it mobile and stable enough to take video. Video camera stands need to be more stable than a photography stand because of the fluid motion desired by many cameramen. Sometimes sacrificing mobility is desirable to get the best shot.

Studio Camera Stand

Studio camera stands are generally similar to a monopod attached to a base that has wheels. Some of these stands allow a sliding height controls along with the mobility of the wheeled base. A stable, mobile camera stand is perfect for use in videos but come at a price. Most of these types of stands are not affordable for an amateur director or cameraman. If money is not an issue it is a great solution, but those on a budget should look for a less expensive alternative. This may include making similar homemade alternatives. A handy cameraman on a budget should first find the options they want and look for possible household items that provide similar features or things that could be put to use and provide a similar function.
