Camera straps come in many varieties and uses. A neck strap allows the user to hang their equipment from around their neck freeing their hands to do other tasks when necessary. A wrist strap will keep a small digital camera from falling to the ground easily if it somehow slips from the user’s hands. There are also chest straps and harnesses that allow the camera be strapped closely to the body so it does not swing free. Many of these models provide a quick release which will allow the user to quickly remove the camera when necessary. A strap without a quick release is less desirable because it could place the photographer in a dangerous situation. If they are an outdoor photographer who regularly goes rock climbing, rafting, or even diving the quick release could allow the photographer to remove their equipment in case it gets caught on a rock or somehow becomes twisted around the neck.

The straps provided with cameras are not meant to be used for adventurous photographers. A more padded neck strap is desirable for the photographer who is also an outdoorsman. Some cameras actually warn against the use of the provided neck strap for use around the neck as it could cause injury. A wide, padded strap with a quick release is the best option for the camera guy on the go.

Nikon Camera Strap

Nikon offers a few different neck straps. They all look thin and have little to no padding. A consumer would want to test a strap personally to look for comfort and functionality. Beyond comfort and functionality the straps also do not offer a quick release which is probably the most desirable feature for a camera strap when put in a possible dangerous situation. They also hang loosely from the neck rather than providing a harness option which could cause unnecessary damage to the camera even in normal daily use for the average photographer. Nikon is more known for their camera manufacturing. A company that specializes in straps would be preferable for the more serious photographer. Specialized companies generally do more extensive research and testing on their products, giving better end results for the user. These include harnesses and belts which may be more desirable to an enthusiast than any regular camera strap.
