Have you ever been on a hidden camera tape? Hopefully on the right kind. Hidden cameras can be as much fun to play with as they can do harm. A hidden camera takes still or video pictures of people without their knowledge. The camera is called hidden because it is either invisible or disguised as another object.

Several TV shows such as “Caught on hidden camera” have been using hidden cameras to trick their guests, film it and then have a blast showing it to the TV audience. This kind of hidden camera footage is embarrassing for the taped person but mostly does not do any harm to people or property. TV shows also can only air the hidden camera footage if the taped people agree to showing the tape. In history there have been several lawsuits about the tape being aired without permission. Locker rooms are private spheres and as such should not ever be the part of a prank or videos taken there should not be shown on TV or spread through the Internet.

Sometimes hidden cameras are used to supervise stores or clubs to keep the business save and to be able to see if any criminal business transactions are going on. The same kind of hidden cameras are sometimes also used by Police, FBI and other criminal justice organizations to collect incriminating evidence and convict criminals.

Hidden camera pics can either be stored in small storage devices or send via cable or wireless. If the camera is wireless a receiver needs to be within a short radius, usually up to a few hundred feet. Wired cameras are usually connected to a TV, VCR or DVR.

Hidden cameras come in several forms and sizes and can also be built into many conventional objects as hiding places. Buttonhole cameras and even smaller sizes are easy to hide. In home surveillance hidden cameras can be built in smoke detectors, ball caps, cell phones, clock radios, houseplants and any other conventional objects you can think of.

Hidden cameras can be used for home security, especially since robbers will not know that they are being watched or taped.
