Infrared Cameras

Infrared Cameras

Infrared Cameras are very interesting because they take pictures in very different ways than other, typical cameras do. Infrared cameras operate in wavelengths with thousands of more nanometers than that of regular, visible light cameras. The Infrared Cameras find the energy from the Electromagnetic Spectrum. This determines how long the wavelengths will be from the object to the camera. The Infrared determines the temperature of the object, which them emits a certain amount of black-body radiation. Thus, the higher the temperature of the object, the more radiation of black-body it emits. The Infrared Camera can detect these wavelengths and put them into photographs almost like visible light cameras do. The Infrared Cameras can also take photographs in the dark.

There are two different types of Infrared Cameras. The two types are cooled Infrared image detectors and uncooled Infrared image detectors. Cooled detectors are usually ones that are contained because they become very sensitive to temperature around them. This way, the cooled detectors can notice the change in temperature if the object is warmer or cooler than the camera itself. Uncooled detectors function at ambient temperatures. The change in temperatures are then measured and compared to the sensor. The cooled Infrared detectors are more bulky than the uncooled detectors. However, the cooled detectors have better quality of photographs when compared with uncooled detectors.

How Infrared Cameras Are Used

Infrared Cameras are used to do a long list of things. Among them are pollution detection, automotive applications, law enforcement and anti-terrorism, firefighting operations, moisture detection in roofs and walls, search and rescue operations, and medical testing for diagnosis. There are literally many, many more things that Infrared Cameras are used for and these are just a few. Needless to say, the Infrared Cameras are the cameras most used during military and government operations, more than any other camera. Although there are uses for these cameras in the military and police force, everyday people use them as well.

Infrared Outdoor Cameras

The everyday people can use Infrared Cameras outdoors for their own protection as well. People can choose to use Infrared Cameras for surveillance. There are different types of Infrared Cameras that can be used outdoors, such as high resolution, waterproof and the cameras that view live or record. All of these are available with a price range from starting at about $125 that go up to about $400. Although they may seem expensive, if you are concerned about the security of your house, remember that these are the cameras that the military, police force and firefighters use to help them.
