Instant Cameras
Instant cameras are another type of camera available in the land of photography. Instant cameras are equipped with a self-developing film. Well-known examples are cameras from the Polaroid Corporation. Edwin land is named as the inventor of instant cameras. He introduced the first commercially available instant camera, the Land, camera in 1947. He is also the founder of the Polaroid Corporation. The corporation really started making money with Polaroid instant cameras after the introduction. Most instant cameras have a film that after taking the picture has to be taken out of the camera for development. The positive and the negative of the film have to be pulled apart and finally after a short wait the picture will appear on the film.
Polaroid instant still cameras are not the only cameras Polaroid developed. They even had an instant movie camera called Polavision. The Polavision was not a very big success and its production ceased soon after the start.
There are also types of non-Polaroid instant cameras such as Keystone, Konica (Konica instant press) and Minolta. Their cameras are mostly compatible with Polaroid film. Instant cameras such as the former Kodamatic a Kodak instant camera used a different but similar film paper which Polaroid used as a reason for a lawsuit and pressured Kodak to give up the instant camera as well as the film paper.
At the time the Polaroid instant cameras where invented was a time before anybody even so much as thought of digital cameras and many users preferred using a camera they could see the pictures within a short amount of time and not days of processing and developing and if needed the picture can be retaken.
Some companies started producing Polaroid compatible parts and products such as Fujifilm instant photo paper.
And believe it or not there once was a disposable instant camera produced by Polaroid and called PopShot. The Polaroid Popshot was a very small instant camera that was able to take 10 color photographs and came with a free return envelope for recycling. It did not last very long since its price was not comparable to other disposable cameras and if it didn’t need to be send in for developing why bother sending it anywhere?
And yes, Polaroid also thought of the kids, especially in recent years. The Polaroid I-zone camera is an instant camera that will take the picture and print it out on a stamp size sticker. This camera is lots of fun for most kids that are into stickers and taking photos
