Security cameras are used in close-circuit television (CCTV) for the purpose of surveillance. Usually the signal from security cameras is limited to be displayed on a specific set of monitors and sometimes gets recorded. The security camera signal is not openly transmitted, not broadcasted. The feed from the wireless security camera is sent via a transmitter to a local receiver and this feed then is either displayed on s central set of surveillance monitors or recorded.

Whole security camera systems usually also have a security camera software attached. The software can be as simple as a recorder function that adds a time and date stamp to the feed to as sophisticated as a watchdog that reacts on movement and starts a certain security safety process such as calling the police or moving cameras to get a closer look at the problem spot.

Since the first security cameras there have also been lots of issues and debates and even some lawsuits concerning security cameras. Most of the issues have been related to privacy versus security arguments, especially if the cameras are installed in public places.

Security cameras are most often used in places like banks, casinos and airports. Every military or governmental building will have some sort of security and surveillance system.
