Wireless Cameras

Essentially there are five different categories of wireless cameras used in our modern world. There are Closed-circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, IP network cameras, PC cameras, digital cameras and camera phones.

The connection of wireless cameras is usually via a transmitter and receiver and nowadays uses Bluetooth or IEE802.11 WIFI communication protocols. To mess with a wireless security system or for that matter of fact any wireless camera a signal needs to be broadcasted at the same frequency as the camera is sending the data and the signal gets jammed.

Wireless video cameras come in a wide range of picture quality and with so many products more money makes for a better picture quality. Wireless cameras have often been used foe espionage in the form of wireless spy cameras. Infrared wireless spy cameras where the first wireless cameras to be able to get a night vision video.

A wireless CCTV camera, also called wireless security camera is generally used for security, surveillance and monitoring. The wireless surveillance camera itself works analog and sends an analog signal via a transmitter to a receiver that is attached to either monitors or a recording system. Wireless surveillance cameras usually range in price from 50 to 500 Dollars and the more you spend the better the quality of the video footage. Some of the wireless surveillance camera systems have weatherproof cameras, camera remote controls and even infrared for night vision. Wireless home security cameras can be installed as hidden cameras or in plain sight. Sometimes wireless cameras are even used as so called nanny cams. These are built into common household items or toys to be able to keep an eye on the work the nanny does around the house and with your child as well as to assure the safety of your child.

Some security systems for important buildings have wireless back up cameras. This means should one surveillance circuit fail there is a wireless back up camera that will take over. Most of the time these are run with a different frequency or protocol to transmit the data to have a safe way of back up in case of jams in the transmission.

For the Internet and networks there are two types of wireless cameras. There are wireless PC cameras and wireless IP Network cameras. The major difference between the two is that a Wireless Internet camera (IP camera) is a stand alone unit and has a built in CPU and web server so that they can be accessed from just about anywhere on the World Wide Web.

One of the newest wireless cameras on the market are in camera phones. They take still pictures and videos and are mostly used for fun, especially since the quality of pictures is not very high.
